POTOMAC, VA -- Radhames Liz tossed 5.0 more scoreless innings, but a three-run eighth inning by the Potomac Nationals doomed the Keys, as they lost their second straight, 3-2.
Liz tossed 5.0 innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out six batters, but he did not earn a decision, as all the scoring was done after he left the game.
The Keys got on the board first in the top of the seventh inning, when Jacob Duncan's sacrifice fly score Jason Fransz to give the Keys a 1-0 lead.
But the Nationals would score three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Brandon Powell.
Fransz hit a solo home run, his fourth of the season, in the top of the ninth inning, but that was all the offense the Keys could manage.
Alex Morales tossed 2.0 scoreless innings to earn the win for the Nationals, while Richard Salazar, in his first appearance with the Keys took the loss.
The Key and Nationals will play game two of their three game series on Saturday as LHP Garrett Olson takes the mound for the Keys. The Keys and Warthogs will meet for game three of their four game series on Wednesday at noon. LHP David Haehnel will take the mound for the Keys.
