Blue Rocks win in 12 innings

Wilmington, DE --- The Blue Rocks (12-11) won for the first time this year in extra innings with a 4-3 win over the Winston-Salem Warthogs (9-12), Carolina League affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. John Otness connected for the game winning walk-off single in the 12 inning to move the Blue Rocks above the .500 mark.

Dominic Ramos led off the inning with a double then moved up to third on the sac-bunt from Jeff Corsaletti. After Bryan Pritz drew a walk Otness came up to bat and connected for a single to right field. The Warthogs second baseman Garrett Guest and right-fielder Anderson Gomes could not catch the ball.

Scott Shoemaker (1-1) recorded the win in relief tossing three innings of no-hit ball while walking just one.

The Blue Rocks trailed 3-2 heading into the ninth inning but rallied to tie the game up. Andrew Pinckney connected for a one-out double then moved up to third on Mickey Hall's base hit. Iggy Suarez followed up with an RBI single scoring Pinckney from third to tie the game at 3-3.

Pinckney gave the Blue Rocks a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a two-out two-run triple. With two outs in the inning Ian Bladergroen drew a walk then Matt Kent singled to set up Pinckney.

Pinckney finished the night 2-for-5 with two RBI and run scored.

The Warthogs tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth off reliever Kyle Jackson. Gomes led off the inning with a base hit then moved up to second when Jose De Los Santos walked. Cory Haggerty followed up with a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up. Sean Smith drove a run in with a ground out and Victor Mercedes followed up with an RBI single.

Jackson pitched two innings and allowed two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out three.

Winston-Salem took a 3-2 lead in the eighth off reliever Justin Sturge when Smith connected for a sacrifice fly to center scoring Gomes with one out.

Sturge pitched two innings allowing one run on two hits and struck out one.

Blue Rocks starter Matt Goodson recorded the no-decision in his first start of the season after being called up from extended spring training. Goodson pitched four innings of two hit ball while walking four and striking out three.

Ryan Schroyer also pitched an inning of relief and allowed just one hit and struck out two.

The Blue Rocks and Warthogs continue their series on Sunday, April 30 with right-hander Gary Galves (0-1, 3.86) making the start for Wilmington. The Warthogs counter with lefty Wes Whisler (2-2, 5.40). Game time is at 1:35 p.m.

Game Notes: Jeff Corsalleti finished 1-for-5 with a double and has now reached base with a hit or walk in 22 straight games to open the season.

Jed Lowrie was scratched from the starting lineup because of tightness in his leg. Lowrie was hit in the leg by a pitch on Friday, April 28.
