Jackson, TN --- Edgar Gonzalez scored on a seventh inning error for the game's only run as Carolina blanked West Tenn 1-0 at Pringles Park on Friday night.

The Mudcats (24-25), who shutout the Diamond Jaxx (28-21) for the second time in three days, went ahead when third baseman Richard Lewis threw away a tapper by Patrick Arlis as Gonzalez scored from second base. Lewis was forced to throw a wet baseball as the game was played in varying states of rain from the fifth inning on.

Manu Olivera (W, 2-0) notched his second win in three starts, pitching six-plus innings of scoreless baseball. Olivera needed help in the seventh after allowing a leadoff single, then falling behind Lewis 2-0 before manager Luis Dorante lifted Olivera for Chris Mobley. After a sac bunt and a strikeout, Mobley walked Brandon Sing before he was relieved for Taylor Tankersley, who induced a flyout by Miguel Negron to end the inning.

After Tankersley pitched a perfect eighth, Kevin Cave (S, 2) earned the save through hard rainfall, stranding the tying run at second base as Nic Jackson drove a hard one-hopper to first baseman Ryan Bear to end the game.

Lee Mitchell led the offense with two of Carolina's six hits.

Carolina tossed its sixth shutout, and its second of the series after a 3-0 win on Wednesday night.

Adam Bostick (3-2, 4.12) starts Saturday night in the rubber game of the series against Bobby Brownlie (1-2, 6.57) at 8:05 PM ET.
