Carolina Mudcats News Release

Montgomery, AL --- Jake McGee fanned nine over seven shutout innings as Montgomery cut Carolina's elimination number to four, blanking the Mudcats 4-0 at Riverwalk Stadium on Sunday night.

McGee, Tampa Bay's fifth-rated prospect making just his fourth Double-A start, did not walk a batter and escaped two early jams as he defeated the Mudcats for the first time in his career.

Chris Seddon (L, 6-10) made his second start against his former 2007 club, and was magnificent over the first six innings. Seddon matched McGee inning for inning, blanking the Biscuits over six frames before allowing three hits with one out in the seventh. Seddon was relieved by Jesus Delgado, who permitted a sacrifice fly for the first run of the game. Montgomery scored three more in the inning to assume a 4-0 lead.

Nick DeBarr pitched the final two innings of the shutout, which was Carolina's 12th of the season.

Montgomery maintained its two-game edge in the Southern Division over Jacksonville, which won at Mobile on Sunday. Meanwhile, Carolina fell five games behind first-place Huntsville in the Northern Division with eight to play. Huntsville split a Sunday doubleheader with West Tenn.

Gaby Hernandez (9-9) starts against the league's winningest pitcher on Monday night at 8:05 PM ET. Christopher Mason leads the league with 14 wins and in ERA.

Sunday's loss was dropped Carolina to 0-7 at Riverwalk Stadium this season, and was a club-record 11th consecutive defeat at Riverwalk dating to July, 2006.
