Carlos Triunfel Cycles For Tacoma In Rout Of Fresno

TACOMA, Wash. - Carlos Triunfel became the first Tacoma player to hit for the cycle in more than 15 years as the Rainiers rolled to an 8-0 win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday night.

Triunfel is the first Tacoma player to cycle since outfielder Raul Ibanez accomplished the feat against Albuquerque on August 19, 2007. He also is now the first player in the Pacific Coast League to cycle since Nashville's Caleb Gindl on July 10, 2011, also against Albuquerque.

The infielder achieved the act in just his first four at-bats of the game. Triunfel tripled with one out in the first inning, led off the bottom of the third with a double, then homered in the fourth. He completed the cycle in the fifth inning after lining a single down the right field line.

Triunfel ended the night 5-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. He is the first Rainiers player to record a five-hit game since outfielder Michael Saunders on July 30, 2011 against Las Vegas.

Tacoma combined to collect 12 hits in the contest. Nick Franklin went 2-for-3 with three RBI, including his first home run of the season - a three-run blast in the bottom of the fifth inning. Eric Thames homered for the second consecutive game, taking a three-run shot deep to right field with one out in the third.

Rainiers starter James Paxton (1-1) picked up his first career Triple-A win in the outing. The left-hander tossed a season-high 6.0 shutout innings and allowed just two hits and struck out five.

Right-handers Andrew Kittredge (2.0 IP) and Logan Bawcom (1.0 IP) combined to strike out four over 3.0 innings of work out of the bullpen.

The Rainiers (7-7) look to notch back-to-back wins in the third game of the team's four-game series against the Grizzlies at 7 p.m. on Friday night. Right-hander Hector Noesi (0-0, -.--) is slated to make his first start for Tacoma this season against right-hander Boof Bonser (0-1, 5.40) for the Grizzlies.
