Tucson Takes Early Lead, Holds off Salt Lake

The Tucson Padres scored in each of the first four innings Wednesday on way to a 10-7 victory over the Salt Lake Bees at Kino Stadium.

Jaff Decker opened the scoring in the first with his team-leading third home run of the season. Tucson added three runs in the second, highlighted by Jesus Merchan's two-run triple. Merchan finished the day with three hits, two RBIs and two runs.

After the Bees scored twice in the top of the third, Gregorio Petit responded with a two-run single to extend Tucson's lead to 6-2. Daniel Robertson, Decker and Brandon Allen contributed with RBI hits in the fourth to give the Padres a seven-run advantage. Two runs from the Bees in the fifth and Efren Navarro's three-run double in the eighth brought Salt Lake within two, but Brad Boxberger's two scoreless innings secured the game.

Brandon Kloess picked up his first win of the season, throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, while A.J. Schugel was charged with his first loss for Salt Lake.
