Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The National Lacrosse League announced Wednesday that Colorado Mammoth forward Dan Carey has been selected for the starting lineup of the West Division All-Star team.
The 2007 NLL All-Star Game will be played at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, March 10. The game will be broadcast live on Versus at 8 p.m.
Carey, who in his rookie season made the 2006 All-Star team as a reserve, will make his second consecutive appearance in the game and will start for the first time.
"Dan has become one of the elite players in the league and has worked extremely hard this season," Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. "He is a great player and a great teammate, so it is nice to seem him rewarded."
Carey, who leads the Mammoth with 23 goals and 51 points, will join Dan Dawson of the Arizona Sting on the West's starting forward line. Transition player Brodie Merrill of the Portland LumberJax and defensemen Andrew Turner of the Edmonton Rush and Taylor Wray of the Calgary Roughnecks were also named starters for the West. Arizona's Rob Blasdell earned the start in goal.
The 12 reserves for the West and East teams will be announced later this week. Each All-Star team will have a total of 18 players, and all 13 NLL teams will be represented.
The West and East Division All-Star teams were determined by the combined votes of the league's general managers, league media, and fans, who voted online at the league's official Web site. The votes of each of the three groups weighed equally in determining the starting lineups.
The West Division All-Stars will be coached by Mammoth coach Gary Gait with Sting coach Bob Hamley serving as his assistant. The East Division All-Stars will be coached by Buffalo Bandits coach Darris Kilgour with Rochester Knighthawks coach Ed Comeau serving as his assistant. The All-Star Game coaches were determined by teams' finishing order in the 2006 NLL Playoffs.
