Ontario Clippers News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - The Agua Caliente Clippers (17-17) break a three-game losing streak, defeating the Northern Arizona Suns (8-26), 122-113, on Saturday night with help from a career night from J.J. Avila.
Avila recorded a huge double-double of 27 points and 15 rebounds, both career highs, on an efficient 12-of-19 shooting from the field.
The game was a close one from the start, with the teams exchanging leads eight times in the first half. However, the Clippers took charge after the half, pulling down seven offensive rebounds to help them pull ahead of the Suns by double-figures, despite both teams shooting over 60 percent in the frame. Northern Arizona continued their hot shooting in the fourth but Agua Caliente was able to hold on for the victory.
James Palmer Jr. led the Clippers in the scoring column with a game-high 29 points. Xavier Rathan-Mayes added a double-double of 13 points and 10 assists.
The Suns were led by Tariq Owens and Ike Nwamu, who each tallied 22 points on the night.
The Clippers return home to take on the Western Conference-leading Memphis Hustle in Tuesday matinee. The matchup is slated to tip-off at 11 a.m. inside the Toyota Arena in Ontario, CA.
