CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. -- The Springfield Cardinals (17-14, 47-54) completed their fourth straight series win with a 6-2 victory against the Corpus Christi Hooks (14-17, 47-53) on Monday night. Springfield closed the seven game trip to Texas winning both series and going 5-2 on the week.

W: RHP Johan Oviedo (4-4)
L: RHP Chad Donato (1-1)
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED:
-The Cardinals claimed the early advantage with a two-out rally in the second. LF Lars Nootbaar kept the inning alive initially with a two-out walk, followed by a fielding error that allowed SS Rayder Ascanio to reach. RF Scott Hurst brought both runners home with a two-out, two-run double to right field for the 2-0 lead.
-The Cardinals added to the lead in the top of the third, which started with consecutive singles from CF Dylan Carlson and RF Justin Toerner. 3B Yariel Gonzalez delivered an RBI double to right field, plating Carlson for the 3-0 lead.
-Corpus Christi got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI fielder's choice from DH Seth Beer, plating LF Ronnie Dawson from third to shave the deficit to 3-1.
-Hooks C Chuckie Robinson brought Corpus Christi within one run, 3-2, with a solo home run to start the fourth inning.
-Springfield padded the lead with three runs in the top of the eighth. The first two runs came in on a two-run double from 2B Alberto Triunfel, before a balk from RHP Enoli Paredes brought in the third run of the inning, opening the Springfield lead to 6-2.
NOTABLES:
-SS Rayder Ascanio went 1x4 with a single and two runs to extend his season-long hitting streak to 12 games.
-3B Yariel Gonzalez went 3x5 with an RBI double, tallying his fourth three-hit game in just his first 29 contests in Double-A.
-CF Justin Toerner went 2x5 with a pair of singles and hit safely in six of the seven games on the road trip.
-After RHP Johan Oviedo went the first 5.0 innings with just the two runs allowed, RHP Bryan Dobzanski tossed 3.0 shutout innings out of the bullpen. RHP Connor Jones slammed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
WHAT'S ON DECK:
-The Cardinals return home for a seven-game homestand starting on Wednesday, July 24. Wednesday is a Purina Woof Wednesday with dogs welcome at the game. First Pitch vs. Amarillo is 6:30pm, gates open at 5:30pm.
