Springfield Cardinals News Release

The Arkansas Travelers snapped a four-game slide, getting a walk-off win on Friday night, by knocking off the Springfield Cardinals 5-4.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Sean Rodriguez picked up a two-out broken-bat single to right field, scoring the winning run in the final night game of Ray Winder Field history.

After the Cards tied it at 4-4 in the fourth inning, the two teams played scoreless baseball until the bottom of the ninth inning.

Cards' reliever Jose Garcia (0-1) allowed a one-out double to Devin Day in the bottom of the ninth. Day moved to third on Aaron Peel's groundout, then scored on the Rodriguez single to right field.

Trailing 4-0 against Arkansas starter Rafael Rodriguez, the Cards rallied for four runs in the fourth inning. Cody Haerther's RBI single put Springfield on the board at 4-1, as he knocked in Nick Stavinoha. Iker Franco followed with his second home run in the last three games, a three-run shot to left, tying the game at 4-4.

Cards' starter Eric Haberer surrendered four runs over six innings in the no-decision, allowing a two run homer to Rodriguez in the first and a two-run shot to Matt Brown in the third.

Aaron Pullin (2-0) worked three scoreless frames, allowing just one hit, to earn the victory in relief.

With the loss, Springfield's three-game winning streak comes to an end, as the Travs also end their own four-game slide. The Cards fall to 26-42 in the second half and 65-71 overall. The Redbirds will look to get back on track on Saturday afternoon, as Blake Hawksworth (3-2) goes for the Cards, while the Travs will send Chris Hunter (4-13) to the mound. Game time from Ray Winder Field on Saturday afternoon will be at 1:00pm.
