Springfield Cardinals News Release

Ed Lucas' sixth hit of the night put Northwest Arkansas to stay, as the Naturals outlasted the Springfield Cardinals in 13 innings, winning by a final of 10-7. The loss for Springfield (17-13) ends a five-game winning streak and drops them back into a first-place tie with the Naturals (17-13) in the North Division.

With runners at first and second and one out, Lucas tripled down the right field line off Cards' reliever Adam Daniels (1-4), bringing home Kila Kaaihue and Juan Richardson to snap a 7-7 tie. Irving Falu followed with another hit, a single to left to score Lucas and make it 10-7.

The Cards put two on in the bottom of the 13th, but Chris Hayes (3-1) struck out Brandon Yarbrough and got Casey Rowlett to ground out to end the game.

Northwest Arkansas blew multiple leads on Monday night before eventually hanging on. Casey Rowlett's two-run homer in the sixth inning, capped a four-run come-back, as the Cards tied the game at 5-5 against Naturals' starter Julio Pimentel.

Brian McFall homered in the eighth to break the 5-5 tie, putting the Naturals ahead 6-5, with his 12th homer of the year. McFall struck again in the ninth inning against Luke Gregerson, this time with a two-out single to left to plate Kaaihue, making it 7-5.

Springfield got even with two in the ninth to force extra innings. With two outs and Rowlett at second and Tyler Greene at first, Allen Craig grounded one deep to third baseman Ed Lucas. Lucas started for third before realizing he wasn't going to beat Rowlett to the bag. Instead, he threw wildly down the first base line, allowing both Rowlett and Greene to score, evening the game at 7-7.

The Naturals built an early 3-0 lead in the first against Justin Fiske, who lasted three innings in only his second start of the year. Juan Richardson highlighted the frame with the first of his three hits, a two-run double.

Trailing 4-0 in the fourth, Springfield responded with two to make it 4-2. Both teams traded runs in the fifth, before Rowlett's fourth homer of the year made it a 5-5 game in the sixth.

Springfield looks to get back on track, welcoming the Arkansas Travelers to town on Tuesday night. Tyler Herron (5-4) will take on Bobby Mosebach. 1,000 fans 18 and over will receive a Missouri Lottery "Scratchers" Ticket. Game time on Tuesday is 7:10pm and gates open at 6:10pm. Tickets are still available for the final three games of the home stand, by calling (417) 863-2143 or online at www.springfieldcardinals.com.
