North Little Rock, AR - The Springfield Cardinals won their third straight game at Dickey-Stephens Park, topping the Arkansas Travelers, 2-1, before 3,555 fans on Wednesday night. The Cardinals collect the series win, 3-games-to-1, and move one game in front of the Tulsa Drillers for 1st place in the North Division Second Half Standings.

Cardinals LHP Marco Gonzales made the start for Springfield (14-12, 44-52), retiring his first eight in a row through a perfect 2.2 innings to begin his outing. Gonzales finished with 3.2 scoreless innings, scattering only three hits with no runs while striking out four. RHP Corey Baker (W, 3-4) took over on the mound with runners at the corners and two down, and quickly concluded the frame with a strikeout.

Travelers RHP Austin Wood (L, 6-4) countered with scoreless work through his first five innings, keeping the Cardinals to just one hit through the first half of the game.

However, Springfield broke through in the top of the sixth. With one down, DH Mike O'Neill reached on a single through the middle, chasing Wood from the mound. Facing RHP Nate Hyatt, LF Anthony Garcia cracked the scoreless tie by swatting a two-run shot to right-center, his ninth homer of the year, opening the 2-0 lead for the Cardinals.

Baker kept the Cardinals lead intact through his outing, tossing 2.1 perfect innings and retiring all seven of his batters in a row. LHP Kyle Hald picked up where Baker left off with a scoreless seventh, before RHP Chris Perry logged a 1-2-3 eighth, keeping the Cardinals ahead, 2-0.

Perry went back out for the bottom of the ninth to try to slam the door, but the Travelers (12-14, 48-47) did not make it easy. RF Blake Gailen worked a walk to start the stanza, before racing to third on a single from pinch-hitting 1B Wade Hinkle one out later. With runners at the corners and one away, RHP Ronnie Shaban (S, 2) took over on the mound. C Anthony Bemboom welcomed Shaban to the hill with an RBI single through the left side, bringing in Gailen to get the Travs on the board. However, Shaban responded with a fly out from SS Eric Stamets and a strikeout of 2B Sherman Johnson, slamming the door and closing the 2-1 win for Springfield.
