Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (July 21, 2015) - The Frisco RoughRiders came out on top in a home run shootout against the Corpus Christi Hooks on Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark, 6-5. In a game that featured three long balls for each squad, the winning run crossed the plate on a RBI-fielder's choice from Zach Cone in the eighth inning.
Tied 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth, the Riders (17-9, 46-50) loaded the bases thanks to a hit batter, walk, and single. The Hooks were unable to turn a double play on a hard hit grounder from Cone and Trever Adams crossed the plate to give Frisco the 6-5 advantage.
Teoscar Hernandez started the scoring early with a solo-homer in the first to put the Hooks on top 1-0. Preston Beck countered with a two-run shot to give Frisco the lead.
Corpus Christi (13-14, 61-35) retook the lead in the fourth thanks to a two-run blast off the bat of Jon Kemmer, but Frisco answered with two long balls of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Ryan Cordell hit a solo-shot over the left field fence, Drew Robinson doubled and then Cone knocked his first Double-A home run to give the Riders a 5-3 advantage.
The Hooks third home run of the contest was a big one as Jack Mayfield tied the contest, 5-5, with a two-run homer in the sixth.
Frisco starter Frank Lopez picked up a no-decision over five innings of work. He allowed three runs on three hits while striking out five. Adrian Houser earned a no-decision in his start for the Hooks. The Right-hander lasted 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits.
Cody Ege (3-2) earned his third win as he worked a scoreless eighth inning. Travis Ballew (3-4) dropped the decision over 2/3 of an inning. He allowed the go-ahead run to score in the eighth. Andrew Faulkner picked up his first save with a hitless, scoreless ninth frame to secure the 6-5 victory for Frisco.
Chad Bell toes the rubber for Frisco in game two of a four-game set against the Hooks on Friday night. Corpus Christi sends Joe Musgrove to the mound in the 7:05 start. Fans can celebrate Daddy Daughter Date Night on July 25. Dads and daughters will be treated to a meet and greet with Peyton Meyer from Disney Channel's Girl Meets World and can stick around post-game for a Daddy-Daughter Dance in the State Fairway.
