Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers opened an important seven-game homestand Thursday night with a 5-3 loss to the Arkansas Travelers. The loss dropped Tulsa two games behind first-place Springfield in the North Division standings of the Texas League.
The Drillers took a short-lived lead in Thursday's defeat with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Brandon Trinkwon led off with a double and scored on a one-out single from Jeremy Rathjen.
The Travelers promptly erased the lead with a pair of runs off Jairo Heredia in the fourth. Chad Hinshaw and Raywilly Gomez opened the inning with consecutive singles. Blake Gailen plated Hinshaw with a double, and Wade Hinkle brought Gomez home with a sacrifice fly.
Arkansas plated two more runs in the sixth against reliever Deck McGuire. McGuire retired the first two batters before issuing a two-out walk to Brian Hernandez. Hinkle followed with a base hit before Eric Stamets brought both runners home with a two-run double that gave the Travs a 4-1 lead.
The Drillers got their second run in the bottom of the seventh when Erisbel Arruebarrena led off with a double and Kyle Farmer followed with a base hit to make it 4-2.
Each team added a run in the eighth to close out the scoring. For the Travs, Hernandez led off with a base hit and eventually scored on a two-out single by Drew Maggi. Tulsa's run came on a leadoff home run from Rathjen, his sixth of the season.
Heredia pitched effectively but suffered the loss to drop his record to 0-3. He allowed three hits and two runs in five innings.
Travs' starter Michael Brady picked up the win to improve his record to 5-4. He surrendered only one run and five hits in six innings of work.
Ronald Torreyes went 0-4 for the Drillers, snapping his 11-game hitting streak.
Tulsa and Arkansas will play the second game of their four-game series Friday night at ONEOK Field. Jeremy Kehrt (6-6, 3.43 ERA) will pitch for the Drillers against Kyle McGowin (5-7, 5.02 ERA) of the Travelers. First pitch is set for 7:05PM with a News On 6 Friday Night Fireworks Show scheduled for after the game.
