Cardinals Take Series with 7-4 Win

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Daytona Tortugas lost their series deciding matchup with the Palm Beach Cardinals on Wednesday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. After Tuesday's game was delayed 41 minutes at the start, tonight's was delayed 50 minutes.

The Tortugas scored first all three games in the series, with their initial runs tonight coming in the second. First, Ibandel Isabel hit a solo homerun off of LHP Evan Kruczynski, his 23rd of the season, to put Daytona on the board. Stuart Fairchild and Malik Collymore followed up the homer with back-to-back doubles to give Daytona the 2-0 lead.

Palm Beach answered with three runs in the top of the third. With one away, Stefan Trosclair lined a triple to centerfield and came into score two pitches later on a Danny Hudzina two-run homerun off of RHP Tommy Bergjans to tie the game. Kramer Robertson followed the homerun up with a triple and came into score on a sacrifice fly from Irving Lopez to go up 3-2.

The Cardinals built a two-run advantage by scoring in the top of the fifth. With two away, Robertson extended the inning with a single and came around to score on a Lopez double, making it a 4-2 game.

Daytona scored two in the last of the fifth to retie the game. Collymore led off the inning with a double, his second of the game, and Alberti Chavez advanced him to third when he reached with a single. Randy Ventura drove in Collymore with an infield single to make it a 4-3 game. And after Taylor Trammell walked to load the bases, Tyler Stephenson hit a sacrifice fly to score Chavez and tie the game at four.

Palm Beach immediately answered in the top of the sixth. JB Woodman and Shane Billings led off the inning with back-to-back doubles to put runners on second and third. Woodman scored the go-ahead run on a Jose Godoy sacrifice fly to make it a 5-4 game and Trosclair drove in Billings with a ground-out to put the Cardinals up two.

Trosclair then hit a one-out solo homerun off RHP Joel Kuhnel in the top of the ninth to round out the scoring at 7-4.

Kruczynski (5-3) earned the win. He allowed four runs on six hits in six innings. Kruczynski struckout five and walked one. LHP Kevin Canelon (0-1) gets handed the loss in relief. He allowed two runs on two hits in 2 1/3 innings with a strikeout.

The Tortugas will welcome the Fort Myers Miracle to town tomorrow night. RHP Tejay Antone (2-2, 4.78) will get the ball for the Tortugas in the opener.

First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 7:05 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:45 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.

NOTES: The Tortugas fall to 0-32 when trailing after 8 innings... Daytona is now 2-9 in rubber matches, having lost 8 in a row... Malik Collymore played for the Tortugas for the first time since 5/9. In his return he went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. It is his second 3-hit game of the season and first multi-double game of his career... Randy Ventura finished with 3 more hits tonight, going 3-for-5. He finished 8-for-15 (.571) in the three game series. He now has 11 multi-hit efforts in 32 games with the Tortugas... Ibandel Isabel hit his first homerun at The Jack since 7/6. Since joining the Tortugas on 4/19 Isabel has hit 23 homeruns, the most in all of Minor League Baseball... RHP Joel Kuhnel surrendered a homerun for the first time since 6/3. He had gone 14 straight appearances without allowing a longball.
