PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and cruised to 9-1 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday at First Data Field.

The Mets had a bright spot in first baseman Jeremy Vasquez, who went 4 for 4 with four singles. He raised his batting average from .264 to .303 by the end of the night.

Palm Beach starter Johan Oviedo limited the Mets to one run on six hits over six strong innings. He matched his season high with seven strikeouts. In two starts vs. the Mets this season Oviedo has given up one run in 11 innings with 14 strikeouts. He won his league-best fifth game.

Mets starter Luc Rennie suffered the loss. He gave up four runs and seven hits in four innings.

After Toerner's three-run homer in the second inning made it 4-0, the Mets responded with their only run. Luis Carpio drove in Carlos Cortes with a two-out single in the third inning.

The Cardinals pulled away late by scoring five runs against the Mets bullpen. They plated three in the eighth on RBI singles from Jose Martinez and Yariel Gonzalez.
