Cardinal Win Fifth In A Row

New Jersey Cardinals News Release


This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) won 5-4 over the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). With the win the Cardinals improved to 17-22 as the Ironbirds fall to 18-21. The Cardinals fifth win in a row makes it the teams longest winning streak of the season. Brantley Jordan (4-0) picked up the win for the Cardinals pitching two-thirds of an inning allowing no hits and no runs. Roberto Batista picked up his 8th save of the season for New Jersey. Jason Cierlik (0-1) got the loss for the Ironbirds.

With the Cardinals down 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Melvin Falu scored on a Daylon Monette double. Monette later scored on a double by Joe Mather to tie the game at 3-3. The Cardinals again battled back in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4 as Falu tripled to lead off the fifth and then scored on Jose Virgils sacrifice fly. New Jersey then scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Casey Grimm led off the eighth inning with a single and Joe Mather moved Grimm to second on a sacrifice bunt. Billy Schmitt then pinch ran for Grimm and scored on a double by Andrew Ginther. Ginther was 3 for 4 on the day with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Brendan Ryan and Mather each contributed two hits on the day for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will take on the Ironbirds tomorrow at Skylands beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday is Bat Day sponsored by Newton Memorial Hospital and the New Jersey Herald. Blues Clues will also make an appearance. There will also be a Bat Raffle courtesy of Miller Lite. Kids can also race around the bases following Sundays game sponsored by Pepsi.
