Batista sets record

On Sunday, July 20th against the Hudson Valley Renegades, Roberto Batista set the New Jersey Cardinalscareer saves record. With his 5th save of the season, Batista accumulated his 18th career save as a Cardinal. Batista threw one inning, allowed two hits, no runs, no earned runs, while striking out one batter. He surpassed both Derek Gooden (1998) and Santo Samora (2000) who each tallied 17 saves in their careers.

For the 2003 season, Batista is 2-1 with 7 saves in 17 appearances. He has not allowed an earned run the entire season, which encompasses 20 and 2/3 innings. After a solid week, Batista now has 20 saves in his Cardinal career.

The New Jersey Cardinals are on their longest road trip of the 2003 season this week. They travel to Hudson Valley, Aberdeen and Vermont before returning home Saturday the 26th of July. The first 1000 kids entering the stadium receive a gift bag courtesy of Sussex County Department of Health and Human Services.
