Lake County Captains News Release
(Lakewood, NJ) - The Lake County Captains took advantage of sloppy defense by the Lakewood BlueClaws en route to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory on Sunday. Two of the three Captains runs were unearned. Captains pitching held Lakewood scoreless for the last six innings of the game. The Captains record is now 2-2 in the second half.
The BlueClaws started the scoring in the second inning on a solo home run by Mike Durant off of Captains starter Ryan Miller to take a 1-0 lead. It was Durant's 11th home run of the year. The Captains tied it at 1-1 in the top of the second against the BlueClaws starter Chance Chapman. Following two, two out errors by the BlueClaws second baseman Derrick Mitchell, Roman Pena singled home Adam White. The Claws came right back in the bottom of the third when Mitchell singled home D'arby Myers to make it 2-1.
The Captains tied it at 2-2 in the sixth inning when Matt Brown hit a sacrifice fly off of BlueClaws reliever Moises Melendez. The Captains took the lead 3-2 against Chris Kissock in the top of the eighth inning when Dustin Realini scored on a throwing error by the Claws shortstop Freddy Galvis who was trying to complete a double play.
Miller did not factor in the decision as he went five innings giving up two runs on six hits, walking two and striking out three. Paolo Espino followed Miller in the sixth inning and threw three scoreless innings and picked up his first win. Vinnie Pestano pitched a scoreless ninth inning to notch save number fifteen. Kissock took the loss and his record fell to 1-3.
