Bumgarner Does it Again

Augusta, GA- For the second time in ten days Madison Bumgarner (7-2) shutout Asheville in a 5-0 win for Augusta. The North Carolina native struck out ten and pitched seven innings in the win. Augusta (43-29, 2-1,) scored four runs in the third inning to take the third game of the five game series.
Bumgarner held Asheville to five hits and no runs and has now tossed 14 consecutive scoreless innings against the Tourists. Augusta took advantage of three miscues by the Tourists to score four runs in the third inning and one in the fifth to win 5-0 over Asheville
Bruce Billings (4-5) was handed the loss with five innings worked on the night. Billings allowed a one out double to Nick Noonan to score two runs in the third. The defense faltered behind Billings as he battled through five innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits. Billings struck out five and walked one in the loss. Robinson Fabian, Edgmer Escolona and Joey Williamson combined for three scoreless innings in relief.
Asheville was shutout for just the fourth time this season, the second time by the 18-year-old Bumgarner. The Lenoir NC native Bumgarner has allowed just four earned runs in his last ten starts.
