Lake County Captains News Release

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains (44-37) received six no-hit innings from their bullpen in Tanner Burns' return from the injured list on the mound in a 5-1 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (38-43) on Thursday night at Classic Park.

Lake County took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. After a bloop double in shallow right field by Julian Escobedo, José Tena uncorked a no doubt two-run home run to put the Captains on the scoreboard.

In the top of the third inning Jordan Diaz launched a solo home run to left field to put Lansing on the scoreboard, trailing Lake County 2-1.

The Captains got three big insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh to go on top 5-1. Joe Naranjo reached on an infield single. Angel Lopez followed with a double down the left field line to push Naranjo up to third. A walk to Victor Nova loaded the bases with nobody out. Raynel Delgado hit a ground ball back to the mound and Naranjo was forced out at home but Delgado reached. That brought up Quentin Holmes and he delivered an RBI single to left field that drove in both Lopez and Nova. With runners on second and third Escobedo reached on a fielder's choice but Delgado was thrown out at home by first baseman William Simoneit. Tena was up next and he ripped a single up the middle to plate Holmes and cap the scoring for the Captains in the frame.

Jared Janczak hurled three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win. He faced the minimum in his three innings thanks to a pickoff at first base and two strikeouts.

Reid Birlingmair (3-5) took the loss for the Lugnuts. He was charged with five runs in 6.1 innings. He allowed five hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Daniel Espino takes the ball for the Captains on Friday for game four of the six-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m at Classic Park.
