Lake County Captains News Release

(Bowling Green, KY) - The Lake County Captains battled not just the Bowling Green Hot Rods, but also Mother Nature on Monday afternoon while splitting a doubleheader. The Captains won a suspended game from Sunday, 4-3. Then dropped a seven inning game, 4-1.

The Captains were leading the Hot Rods 4-0 when the rain caused Sunday afternoon's game to be suspended. Before the rain fell, the Captains used a five hit 4th inning to score all four of their runs. Dorssys Paulino singled home the first run, scoring Yu-Cheng Chang. Taylor Murphy and Grant Fink each followed with RBI doubles. Martin Cervenka capped the scoring with an RBI single.

Jordan Milbrath started the game on Sunday but was unable to come back to finish the suspended game on Monday. Julian Merryweather took the mound to start the bottom of the 4th inning. After allowing a single, Merrweather was able to retire the next three Hot Rods to end the inning. Once the Captains left the field, the rain started falling again. The game was then delayed again for 1:19.

Merryweather would work 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed 3 runs, all earned, on 6 hits. Cameron Hill (1-0) got the win with 2.2 innings. Hill allowed 1 run and struck out 1. JP Feyereisen (3) worked the 9th inning striking out 2 and allowing 1 hit while earning the save.

In Game 2, the Captains offense once again struggled to get going, collecting just three hits. Bobby Ison accounted for two with two singles. David Armendariz picked up the Captains other hit. Taylor Murphy drove in the lone Captains run of the game on an RBI ground out.

Sean Brady (1-1) started his second game of the season, and second against Bowling Green. Brady took the loss with 4 innings of work. He allowed 6 hits and 4 runs, 3 earned. Brady walked 1 and struck out 2. Nick Pasquale went the final 2 innings in relief. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1.

The Captains will now head to South Bend to begin a three game series on Tuesday night. First pitch will be at 7:05. Dace Kime (0-2) will face Jake Stinnett (0-1). Catch the action on 1330 AM WINT.
