West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Fort Wayne TinCaps used a 14-hit attack and launched three home runs to defeat the West Michigan Whitecaps 12-2 Monday afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark.
The TinCaps scored the games' first ten runs, beginning with a two-run single from second baseman Nick Vilter in the second inning. Vilter hadn't recorded a base hit heading into the contest, but went 3-for-5 at the plate. Zach Shepherd and Austin Schotts led the Whitecaps offense with five of the teams' nine hits. Schotts went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Shepherd went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
Fernando Perez (0-2) gave up six runs over 5 innings in recording his second loss of 2015, while Montas (2-0) earned his second victory throwing six scoreless frames.
DERBY MONDAY
The TinCaps hit three home runs in Monday's contest, as designated hitter Edwin Moreno, leftfielder Nick Torres, and first baseman Trae Santos all went deep. The Whitecaps had allowed just three home runs all season to opposing hitters coming into the game.

Before the ballgame; West Michigan placed relief pitcher Joe Jimenez on their disabled list. Jimenez left Friday's Whitecaps game after pitching to just one batter in a 4-3 loss to the Lake County Captains. In a corresponding move, the team added pitcher Chase Edwards to their active roster.
