Cedar Rapids Takes Game Three from Bees

(Burlington-IA) The Burlington Bees could not complete a series sweep, falling 5-2 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the finale of a three game series at Community Field, Monday afternoon.

Cedar Rapids jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. With runners at second and third and one out, Nick Gordon flew out to center, scoring Tanner English from third, giving the Kernels the lead. The Kernels added to their lead the next inning. Max Murphy led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a groundout. Murphy would then come around to score on a fielding error, on a ground ball hit by T.J.J White, extending the Kernels lead to 2-0.

With Cedar Rapids leading 2-0 in the fifth, Nick Gordon drove in his second run of the game, singling to center, scoring English, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Kernels.

Burlington got on the board in the fifth inning. With a runner at second base, Andrew Daniel leaced to single to left, scoring Yacinich, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Cedar Rapids added two more runs in the seventh inning on a Zack Granite run scoring triple and a Nick Gordon sacrifice fly, upping the Kernels lead to 5-1.

The Bees attempted to rally in the ninth, loading the bases for Zach Houchins, who flew out to right, scoring Jake Yacinich, but the Bees couldn't get any closer, falling 5-2 in the series finale.

Kernels' starter, Jared Wilson (2-0) earned the win while Bees' starter Michael Bolaksi (0-2) was charged with the loss.

The Bees head to Beloit to start a three game series with the Beloit Snappers, tomorrow night at 6:35 at Pohlman Field in Beloit. Jeremy Rhoades starts for the Bees against Jordan Schwartz for Beloit.
