
Captains Skid Hits Eight in a Row

Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH) - Jason Krizan unloaded his second homerun of the season to right field in the top half of the seventh inning. The homer proved to be the difference in the 5-2 victory for the West Michigan Whitecaps over the Lake County Captains Tuesday night at Classic Park. Krizan entered the game for defense in the bottom half of the fifth inning. The homerun occurred in his first at bat of the night.
The Whitecaps took the lead in the second inning. A Brandon Loy single followed by a Steven Moya double put runners on second and third with one out. Danry Vasquez hit the ball on the ground to first base and the Captains first basemen Jerrud Sabourin decide to try to throw out Loy at home plate. The throw skipped away and two runs scored. The Whitecaps took the lead 2-0.
The Captains answered in the bottom of the second when Jordan Smith tripled for the third straight ballgame. Robel Garcia picked up his second RBI in as many nights on a ground out to second base. The Whitecaps led 2-1 heading to the third inning of play.
The Captains drew even in the bottom half of the third inning when Bryson Myles hit his first homerun of the season. The solo shot tied the game at two runs a piece heading to the middle innings.
The Captains defense turned three double plays on the evening a new season high for twin killings in one game. The defense also committed four errors in the game, which resulted in two of West Michigan's runs to be un-earned.
Captains starter Elvis Araujo (0-3) took the loss after pitching six innings allowing six hits, three runs only one was earned. Elvis walked two and struck out just one. Mason Radeke entered the ballgame in the seventh inning. Radeke pitched two innings allowing two runs both were earned. Mason did strike out two Whitecaps and he also allowed one homerun to Jason Krizan. Grant Sides came in the game to start the top half of the ninth inning for Lake County. Sides pitched a scoreless ninth and allowed one hit.
The Whitecaps starting pitcher Tommy Collier (1-1) earned the win. Collier pitched six innigs allowing three hits. He allowed two runs, both earned and walked two while striking out two. Collier did allow the homer to Bryson Myles. Ramon LeBron entered the game for West Michigan and his final line was 1.1 IP 1H 1BB. The save went to Michael Torrealba (1) his first. Torrealba pitched 1.2 innings and fanned two Captains.
The Captains continue the opening home stand of the season on Wednesday afternoon as the West Michigan Whitecaps and Captains play game three of their current series at Classic Park. The Captains will send Will Roberts (1-1, 2.13) to the hill to face LHP Kyle Ryan (0-0, 4.91) for the Whitecaps. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm.
