GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (4/17/12) - The Burlington Bees split a doubleheader with the Wisconsin Timber Rat- tlers on Tuesday night. The teams played two seven-inning ball games as a result of Monday night's postponed game.

Bees starter, Drew Granier looked stellar in his third start of the season. Granier pitched the entire seven innings to earn his second win and his first complete game of his career. Granier threw 90 pitches (63 strikes), which is easily his season high at this point. In seven innings of work, Granier gave up four hits, one unearned run and struck out seven batters. He now sports a 1.69 ERA and is tied with Brent Powers for the team lead with two wins.

Wisconsin's starter, Matt Miller matched Granier's performance through the first four innings, but the Bees finally managed to get on the board in the fifth. With one out, Nick Rickles poked a base hit into centerfield. With the left-handed hitting Royce Consigli at the plate, the Bees executed a hit-and-run perfectly. Rickles took off for second, which forced Wisconsin's shortstop, Yadiel Rivera to cover the bag; but at that same time Consi- gli hit a groundball directly where Rivera should have been positioned. The hit-and-run created a first and third situation. Newcomer, Aaron Shipman bounced an RBI base hit over the first baseman's head. With Consigli standing at third and Sean Jamieson standing at after a two-out walk, B.A. Vollmuth hit a two-run double to give the Bees a 3-0 lead. The Bees looked great in the fifth and again in the seventh when they tacked on two more insurance runs and finished with a 5-1 victory.

Game two wasn't as kind to the Bees offensively, but starter Jonathan Joseph at least looked better in his third outing. Joseph pitched 3.2 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) while striking out four. Unfortunately Jo- seph lost command of his pitches in the fourth inning and was removed in favor of Jeff Urlaub. Urlaub pitched 1.1 innings and allowed only his second hit of the season. Opponents are only hitting .100 off Urlaub this year. Ryan Doolittle pitched the bottom of the sixth and recorded two strikeouts while not allowing a runner.

The Bees had chances in game two and none better than the top of the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out, but both Consigli and Wade Kirkland struck out looking to end the rally.

The Bees play game three on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Time Warner Cable Field. The Bees then travel back to Burlington for the second home stand of the season. For tickets, call (319) 754-5705 or visit www.gobees.com to view the schedule.
