South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

LANSING, MI - The South Bend Silver Hawks (5-7) were shutout for a second straight night and fell to the Lansing Lugnuts (11-1) by a 3-0 final. Jeff Shields matched his career-high with seven solid innings, but was hit with the tough luck loss.

The right-hander (0-2) allowed three runs - one earned - on six hits while striking out three and walking just one. Shields lowered his ERA to 1.42 and turned in his second straight quality start.

David Rollins started for Lansing and struck out seven over 4.1 innings but did not qualify for the win. The left-hander allowed four hits before departing midway through the fifth inning. Brandon Berl earned the win (2-0) with 1.2 scoreless frames out of the pen.

Tyler Ybarra notched his first save and struck out four over three perfect innings. The Silver Hawks got a runner to third base in the first inning. Ender Inciarte walked on four pitches, advanced to second on a ground out, and then stole third. Inciarte was left stranded and the Hawks did not advance a runner past second for the remainder of the game.

Tom Belza extended his hitting streak to a team-leading five games and went 1-for-4. Marc Bourgeois, Fidel Pena and Niko Gallego also recorded basehits.

The Lugnuts scored two runs in the second inning after Bobby Stone committed an error with two outs, plating Kevin Pillar and Kevin Patterson. Lansing added a third run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from K.C. Hobson.

Kenny Wilson recorded the only multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 for the Lugnuts.

The Silver Hawks turned a nice double play in the fourth inning on a ball off the bat of Kellen Sweeney. Niko Gallego made a nice play to his right, relayed the ball to Gerson Montilla, who evaded a hard slide from Andy Burns to complete the twin killing.

The Silver Hawks and Lugnuts wrap up their three-game series Wednesday at Cooley Law School Stadium. Left-hander John Pedrotty starts for the Silver Hawks and will be opposed by right-hander Marcus Walden. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST. The Silver Hawks return home this Thursday to face the Beloit Snappers at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase by calling 235-9988 or online at www.silverhawks.com.
