Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI) - Walks and errors will always cost you is an old baseball saying that stayed true once again on Friday night in Michigan. The Lake County Captains dropped their season opener by a final of 3-2 after an error in the 4th inning led to 2 unearned runs.
The Captains got things started in the top of the first inning. Greg Allen walked to lead off the game before coming around to score from first on an RBI double from Yu-Cheng Chang.
Dace Kime would keep the Lugnuts off the board until the bottom of the 3rd inning. After walking Gunnar Heidt to start the inning, Kime allowed a 2 out RBI single to Richard Urena that tied the score at 1.
The Lugnuts would then take the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th. With 1 out, Danny Jansen hit a deep fly ball to leftfield. Dorssys Paulino was unable to make the catch, having the ball bounce out of his glove for a two base error. Lansing would then put together back to back 2 out singles to push their lead to 3-1.
The Captains were able to cut the score to 3-2 in the top of the 7th inning. With 2 outs, Allen singled to score Claudio Bautista who started the inning with a base hit.
