Captains Beat Braves 5-1

(Rome, GA) - Dustin Realini had four hits and drove in two runs and the Captains bullpen threw 6.2 scoreless innings to lead the Lake County Captains to a 5-1 win over the Rome Braves on Sunday. The Captains remain hot as they are 6-1 on the road trip and are winners of their last eight out of ten games. The Braves took an early lead when David Berres bunted his way on against Captains starter Erik Berger. Berger was hurt on the play and was replaced by Jonathan Holt. Three batters later Freddie Freeman singled home Berres and it was the Braves with a 1-0 lead. The Captains tied it up at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Realini doubled and then scored on Chris Nash's single.

The Captains took the lead in the seventh inning against Braves reliever Adam Bullard when Juan Valdes plated a run with a ground out and Realini singled in another run to give the Captains a 3-1 lead. It went to 4-1 when Ron Rivas singled home Matt Brown in the eighth inning. The Captains got a RBI double from Realini in the ninth inning to up the lead to 5-1.

Berger got a no decision going 2.1 innings in his Captains debut allowing one run on three hits, while striking out two. Holt improved his record to 3-6 pitching 3.2 scoreless innings allowing three hits and striking out two. Dallas Cawiezell came on in the seventh inning and threw two scoreless innings. John Gaub pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Bullard took the loss in his Braves debut.

The Captains and Braves wrap up the series on Monday at 7:00 PM with the Captains sending RHP Joey Mahalic (7-4, 3.48) to the mound to face the Braves RHP Edgar Osuna (8-4, 3.27). All Captains games can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.

The Captains return home on Wednesday, August 20th to wrap up the regular season portion of the home schedule as they host the Lakewood BlueClaws. The Captains will host the SAL playoffs beginning on September 5th.

Plus, 1988 will perform another hour-long set immediately following the end of the game. Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
