Rome, GA - The Lake County Captains defeated the Rome Braves 12-6 at State Mutual Stadium Saturday night before 4,482 fans.
The Captains took the lead in the first with five runs as Karexon Sanchez reached on a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Erik Cordier. Richard Martinez got on with a walk and Matt Brown singled allowing Sanchez to score sending Martinez to second. Martinez later scored on a Jeff Hehr base hit moving Brown to third. Doug Pickens singled home Brown which sent Hehr to second base. Hehr later reached third on another wild pitch by Cordier and Juan Valdes tripled to score both Hehr and Pickens giving Lake County 5-0 lead. In the third Rome scored after Chris Anderson reached on a walk, got to third on a Michael Fisher double and scored on a CJ Lee single making the score 5-1.
In the fourth inning the Captains scored five insurance runs highlighted by a three run triple by Hehr. The Braves added a single run in the bottom of the fourth on a ground out by Fisher for the 10-2 score. Rome added two more runs in the fifth on a Freddie Freeman two run double and that's as close as they would get all night. Lake County went on for the 12-6 victory.
Gary Campfield (7-3) gets the win for the Captains while Erik Cordier (1-1) is tagged with the loss for the Braves.
