Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Jose Capellan pitched well Sunday for the Drive (64-61, 24-31). Just not well enough as the West Virginia Power (70-55, 37-18) won their third straight game at Fluor Field, 5-2, in front of 4,324 fans.
The Power struck for a pair of runs in the first, both of which came on Eric Fryer's two-run homer. Capellan (3-5) allowed another run in the top of the third as Eric Farris led off with a double and later scored on Fryer's RBI-groundout.
Capellan then settled down to hold the Power scoreless over the final two innings of his outing, recording all three outs in the fourth inning by way of strikeout.
The Drive got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth as Oscar Tejeda doubled home Carlos Fernandez. Jered Stanley provided Greenville's final run in the bottom of the eighth with his team-leading 17th homer of the year.
Other than the run he allowed in the fourth, the Power's Lucas Luetge (2-1) stifled the Drive for 6.0 innings. The southpaw scattered six hits and a walk, while fanning four.
Fernandez and David Mailman continued their hot hitting for the Drive, as both recorded two hits, extending their respective season-high hit streaks to 10 and 11 games.
The Drive will look to avoid a four-game sweep Monday night with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Terumasa Matsuo will toe the rubber for Greenville as West Virginia counters with right-hander R.J. Seidel.
Monday will also mark a milestone for the Drive and Fluor Field as they will welcome their 1,000,000th fan to the ballpark. Not only will the eight finalists for the Honorary Millionth Fan compete for the grand prize which includes a trip for four to Boston to watch a Red Sox game at Fenway Park in 2009, but 2009 Greenville Drive season tickets. In addition, the first 3,000 fans will receive a free "1,000,000 Strong" Greenville Drive t-shirt.
