Lake County Captains News Release

(Salisbury, MD)--Thursday night's game between the Lake County Captains and Delmarva Shorebirds was postponed due to wet grounds. The teams will attemt to make up the game as part of a doubleheader Friday afternoon beginning at 5:05.

The Delmarva area took heavy rain while the Shorebirds were playing out of town earlier in the week, leaving the outfield saturated. A July 4th concert by rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd further damaged a large area in right field.

The decision to postpone the game came at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday after consultations with Delmarva manager Gary Kendall and Captains skipper Lee May Jr.

The Captains (7-7) are coming off a 1-0 loss against Hagerstown on Wednesday. The Shorebirds (4-9) were swept in a three-game series against Lakewood Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Shorebirds have lost five straight games.

In Friday's twinbill, Frank Herrmann and Jim Deters are the expected starters for the Captains. Righthanders Brad Bergesen and Chorye Spoone are the scheduled starters for the Shorebirds.

Following the weekend series at Delmarva, the Captains will kick off an eight-game homestand on Tuesday, July 11th at Classic Park. On Friday, July 14th, fans can enjoy a post-game fireworks show presented by Dollar Bank, and on Saturday, July 15th, the first 2,000 fans receive a mimi-bobblehead of former Captains first-baseman Ryan Mulhern, courtesy of WKNR AM 850.
