
Braves squash Gnats in game three

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves got their revenge over the Savannah Sand Gnats Thursday night with a 9-2 victory on a beautiful night at State Mutual Stadium in front of 3,095 energized fans.
The Braves began their onslaught in the second inning with back-to-back walks drawn by Maximiliano Ramirez and Manny Rodriguez. Josh Morris followed with a single to load the bases, and Jordan Schafer followed suit with a single of his own to bring in Ramirez and the first run of the game. Derrick Arnold then reached on an error that scored Rodriguez, Quentin Davis drew a walk to bring in Morris, and Schafer later scored on a fielder's choice to increase the Braves' lead to 4-0. Rome struck again in the fourth as Schafer swung for his second single, Derrick Arnold took first on a shot to right center, and Ovandy Suero scored Schafer on a single to left field.
Elvis Andrus fired yet another single to right center scoring Suero and Arnold, and later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Ramirez, making the score 8-0. Rodriguez recorded the Braves' final RBI of the night as he scored Andrus on a single up the middle, and Rome would end their scoring spree cruising to a 9-2 victory.
Braves' starter Dustin Evans (1-0) saw an outstanding beginning to his professional career. The Taylorsville, GA native recorded his first win, throwing six scoreless innings and giving up only three hits. A large contingent of fans from Evans' hometown were on hand to witness his first professional win. Jose Santiago took over for the remaining three innings and earned his second save of the season. David Trahan (1-10) took the loss for the Sand Gnats.
