Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves suffered a 9-2 loss to the Savannah Sand Gnats in front of a soggy crowd of 2,520 Wednesday night at State Mutual Stadium.
Savannah scored the first run of the game in the second inning, and then exploded in the third for five more runs. The trouble began when Ofilio Castro drew a two out walk, which was followed by two consecutive doubles from Edgardo Baez and Scott Schade to make the score 3-0. Rome's hopes were dashed further as Dee Brown added a three run homer bringing their lead to 6-0. The Braves threatened in the bottom of the third, as Jamie Romak walked and was later driven in on a two run smash off the bat of Jordan Schafer to cut the Gnats lead to 6-2, but Schafer would unfortunately be the last of the Braves to cross the plate. Savannah added three more insurance runs later in the game to get the win 9-2.
Jake Stevens (1-2) takes the loss for the Braves after going five innings and giving up seven earned runs. Jamie Lehman (5-2) gets the win for the Sand Gnats, with Gene Yost recording his first save.
The Braves hope to redeem themselves in game three of their series against Savannah tomorrow at 7 pm at State Mutual Stadium. For ticket information call 706-378-5144 or log on to www.romebraves.com.
