Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI -- An RBI triple by Ryan Strieby in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 3-3 tie. Then, three West Michigan relievers combined to toss four innings of shutout baseball to help the Whitecaps to a 6-3 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Wisconsin's offense managed just three hits in the game.
Rattler starting pitcher Ricky Orta got in trouble in the bottom of the first. He issued back-to-back walks to James Skelton and Scott Sizemore with one out. Brennan Boesch stroked a two-out single to right field. Skelton scored and the throw was poor allowing Sizemore to come into score.
In the second Jeramy Laster singled off Orta to start the inning. Orta left the game after throwing a 1-1 pitch to Audy Ciriaco for a ball. No report was available on Orta's condition after the game. Natividad Dilone relieved and gave up a single to Ciriaco that put runners at first and third. Dilone struck out the next batter for out number one. Then, Gorkys Hernandez grounded into a fielder's choice that drove in the run.
The Rattlers (3-12) battled back to tie the game. Luis Nunez drew a two out walk in the top of the third. Greg Halman blasted an opposite field home run to right and Wisconsin was down 3-2. Kuo Hui Lo blooped in a two-out single in the top of the third to tie things up at three.
West Michigan (9-8) got a lead off single from Skelton in the bottom of the fifth. One out later Strieby tripled into the right field corner and the Caps led 4-3. A two out single by Santo De Leon knocked in Strieby and it was a 5-3 advantage.
An RBI single by Ciriaco in the eighth pushed the Whitecaps up 6-3. Brett Jensen tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save to close out the Rattlers.
Wisconsin is off on Wednesday. They return to action on Thursday evening on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium to begin an eight game homestand.
