Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Swing of the Quad Cities could do nothing but tip their caps to Drew Miller on Tuesday, as the Fort Wayne Wizards' right-hander twirled seven no-hit innings to lead the home team to a 1-0 victory over the Swing at Memorial Stadium.
Quad Cities (9-10) registered just one hit in the contest and did not advance a runner past first base until the ninth inning. Fort Wayne (7-8) salvaged a series split with the win as three pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout.
Miller (1-1) was brilliant over his seven innings of work, racking up 11 strikeouts and needing just 83 pitches to mow down the Swing batting order. He walked one without allowing a runner past first base, striking out the side twice while facing just one batter more the minimum.
The Wizards got the game's lone run against tandem starter Elvis Hernandez (2-2), who entered the game in the sixth after a strong outing by P.J. Walters. After allowing a hit with one out and hitting a batter with two away, Hernandez was touched for a base hit by Cedric Hunter that drove in Brian Hernandez for the 1-0 lead.
Walters started the game for Quad Cities and matched Miller frame for frame over his five scoreless innings of work. The righty from Alabama allowed just one hit and one baserunner while striking out three without issuing a walk.
Donovan Solano led off the ninth with a blooper down the right field line that turned into a double when the ball popped out of a diving Kyler Burke's glove. The lone Swing hit of the game did not turn into any runs, however, as R.J. Rodriguez struck out the next two batters on his way to his third save of the year.
