West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps couldn't generate any offense due to dominant pitching from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers as part of a 4-1 loss Thursday night in front of 5,607 fans at LMCU Ballpark.
West Michigan generated only three hits while finishing 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Timber Rattlers starter and #4 Brewers prospect Jacob Misiorowski collected seven strikeouts while allowing one unearned run through 5.1 innings in his Midwest League debut.
Neither team scored in the first five innings as Whitecaps pitchers Williander Moreno and Cam Brown combined for five scoreless frames to open the contest. Wisconsin struck in the sixth inning as Joe Gray Jr. roped an RBI double before coming home to score on an errant throw to third base, taking the 2-0 lead. The Whitecaps responded in the bottom of the sixth, as Justice Bigbie cracked an RBI single to cut the lead to 2-1. Wisconsin added vital insurance runs in the seventh, as Alex Hall and Robert Moore added RBI singles to extend the advantage to 4-1. West Michigan failed to rally, managing one base hit in the final three innings as they fell short 4-1.
West Michigan falls to 28-26 as the Timber Rattlers record improves to 21-32. Timber Rattlers starter Jacob Misiorowski (1-0) picks up his first win as Wisconsin pitcher Max Lazar earns his second save, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings to close the contest in a winning effort. Brown (0-1) suffers his first loss in 2023 Whitecaps debut, allowing two runs (one earned) through two innings in the defeat. The Whitecaps have now lost six-straight games for the first time this season, as the Timber Rattlers sit one victory away from four-straight wins for the first time in 2023.
