Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits issued 10 walks on Thursday, as they fell to the Fort Wayne TinCaps for the third time this week by a final score of 9-4 at Modern Woodmen Park.
Despite the loss, Quad Cities took the first lead of the game early in the contest, with Carter Jensen doubling home Javier Vaz on an RBI double, however, it would be their only advantage of the night.
After Bandits' starter Adrian Alcantara started his night with three scoreless innings, Fort Wayne jumped on the right-hander for three runs in the fourth, thanks to RBI singles from Justin Farmer and Jackson Merrill. With Alcantara's pitch-count raising to 80 after 3.2 innings, Eric Cerantola took over on the bump and looked to have ended the inning with a strikeout of Maros Castanon, but a dropped third strike plated two more runs for a 4-1 TinCaps lead.
While Juan Carlos Negret and Kale Emshoff would cut the QC deficit to one run with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth respectively, Fort Wayne would plate five runs over the final three innings.
Wander Arias got the ball for the seventh and eighth innings, allowing a pair of runs on a Lucas Dunn single and, immediately after, a Farmer triple, before Castanon drove in a run with a base hit in the eighth.
In the ninth, Anthony Simonelli issued four-straight walks out of the bullen- with the fourth to Joshua Mears plating a run- while Merrill ended the scoring with a run on a fielder's choice for his second RBI of the night.
Ryan Berget (4-1) got the win for Fort Wayne, allowing two runs and striking out seven in his 5.0-inning start, while Alcantara (0-2) got pegged with his second loss in as many starts with Quad Cities this season, surrendering three runs in 3.2 innings on five hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
The River Bandits will look to snap their three-game skid on Friday, as Chandler Champlain (5-3, 2.68) will take the ball against TinCaps' southpaw Bodi Rascon (1-2, 5.00). First pitch at Modern Woodmen Park is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
