Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
LOS ANGELES, CA - Vancouver Whitecaps FC saw their Concacaf Champions League campaign come to an end with a 3-0 loss against Los Angeles FC this Tuesday evening in the second leg of the quarterfinals at BMO Stadium.
The Blue & White started the match with a quick counter attack that nearly opened the scoring. After a beautiful build-up, Déiber Caicedo's attempt at goal was held by goalkeeper John McCarthy in the fifth minute.
In the eighth minute, LAFC were awarded a penalty. Carlos Vela converted from the spot to make it 1-0.
Despite Whitecaps FC pressing and playing on the front foot, it was LAFC who would score again. Midfielder Ilie Sánchez sent a long through ball from midfield to Vela, as the forward's strike doubled his side's advantage in the 31st minute.
The 'Caps looked to find opportunities in the final third after the halftime interval. Substitute midfielder Pedro Vite's left footed shot from distance on the right side of the field was saved by McCarthy in the 56th minute.
Nine minutes later, Dénis Bouanga played a ball inside the area to José Cifuentes. The substitute's attempt at goal struck the left post and into the net to extend his squad's lead.
The 'Caps now turn their focus back to the Major League Soccer season. This coming Saturday, April 15 they head back on the road to visit Western Conference side Austin FC at 5:30 p.m. PT, live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and AM730 radio.
The Blue & White then return home to host Colorado Rapids at BC Place on Saturday, April 29. For tickets, visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
