Inter Miami CF News Release
MIAMI - Inter Miami CF announced today that it has acquired Canadian international center back and MLS All-Star Kamal Miller and $1,300,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) from CF Montréal in exchange for midfielder Bryce Duke and winger Ariel Lassiter. Inter Miami will retain a sell-on percentage for both Duke and Lassiter, while Montréal will retain a sell-on percentage for Miller.
"Kamal is a standout defender who's just entering his prime. He's improved every year of his career and become one of the league's best players at his position. He has also excelled on the international stage, including at the biggest stage in the World Cup. Additionally, this trade gives us the flexibility to continue making exciting moves in the near future and further strengthen our squad," said Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson. "Bryce and Ariel both made tremendous strides with the Club and we're proud to have helped them along the way. We're grateful to them for everything they did as members of our Club and wish them well moving forward."
The Ontario native is a mainstay for the Canadian senior national team. Miller played every minute of the country's 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign, Canada's first appearance in the tournament in 36 years and only its second ever World Cup participation. He has also featured in two editions of the Concacaf Gold Cup for Canada, as well as Concacaf Nations League. In total, Miller has made 32 appearances for the Canadian senior national team, registering two assists.
Miller, 25, joins from CF Montréal, where he has featured since 2021. He made 60 regular season appearances, 58 of them starts, with the Canadian side and started two playoff games for the team. In that period, Miller notched three goals and six assists and was named a 2022 MLS All-Star. The defender also helped the team win the 2021 Canadian Championship, starting and playing 90 minutes in the 1-0 final win over Toronto FC en route to the title.
Prior to joining Montréal, Miller began his professional career with Orlando City SC. The club selected him in Round One of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft and he went on to make 28 regular season appearances, 23 of them starts, across two seasons with the Lions, as well as two playoff appearances, one of them as a starter.
At the collegiate level, Miller excelled for Syracuse University. He captained the Orange in his final two seasons at the school, and was named to the All-South Region Third Team and voted to the All-ACC Third Team as a senior.
Duke was acquired by Inter Miami ahead of the 2022 MLS season in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money, going on to lead the team in assists in his first campaign in South Florida and being named to the MLS 22 Under 22 list. Lassiter, meanwhile, also joined Inter Miami ahead of 2022 in exchange for a total of $100,000 in General Allocation Money, and went on to make 41 total appearances for the team.
Inter Miami would like to thank Duke and Lassiter for their contributions to the Club on and off the field, and wish them well in their careers.
