Sounders FC and OL Reign Announce Expanded Capacity for June 3 Doubleheader against Portland
April 12, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Seattle Sounders FC and OL Reign today announced that additional inventory is being opened at Lumen Field to expand capacity for the clubs' 2023 doubleheader matchday being held on Saturday, June 3. With demand for the popular event at an all-time high and the stadium's lower bowl currently near to selling out, further seating options are being opened in the upper level and fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets as soon as possible in order to secure the best available options.
The doubleheader features both Seattle's topflight men's and women's soccer teams playing in back-to-back matches on the same day, providing a full day of exciting action and a celebration of soccer for all. The 2023 doubleheader sees both clubs facing off against their archrivals, with Sounders FC battling the Portland Timbers at 1:30 p.m. PT followed by OL Reign taking on the Portland Thorns at 5:00 p.m. PT.
"The passionate soccer culture in this region is heightened as we engage our historic Pacific Northwest rivals. To align Sounders FC with OL Reign in a doubleheader at Lumen Field creates an incredible platform for our fans and sport," said Sounders FC President of Business Operations Hugh Weber. "This event is truly like no other; it embodies the intensity that surrounds the best rivalry in both the MLS and the NWSL. Demand for this match with expanded capacity projects to provide an even stronger homefield advantage for our clubs."
"We are not surprised the demand is high to witness this unique event where both of Seattle's incredible soccer clubs are represented, and we're thrilled to see capacity at Lumen Field has been expanded for our doubleheader," said OL Reign Vice President of Marketing and Ticketing Michelle Haines. "Seattle is a soccer city, and we're confident that we will continue as we did last year to break attendance records throughout the 2023 season, starting with our home opener this Saturday."
A host of entertaining matchday activities and special programming is being put together for the day, with events offered ahead of Sounders FC's early match and also during the period between matches. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.
With the new expanded capacity, this year's doubleheader provides the opportunity for Puget Sound soccer to prove its mettle and regain the NWSL attendance crown, which was taken by the San Diego Wave last year in a match against Angel City FC that drew 32,000. OL Reign previously set the NWSL attendance record for a standalone match during the first iteration of the doubleheader on August 29, 2021, as 27,248 took in Seattle's 2-1 victory over the Thorns at Lumen Field. 45,737 Rave Green fans then watched Sounders FC battle the Timbers.
At this year's match, fans also have the unique chance to send off U.S. Women's National Team players, as the game marks one of the final opportunities to witness them play in person before the USWNT travels to New Zealand for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023.
As was the case with the inaugural Sounders-Reign doubleheader in 2021, this year's doubleheader is being treated as a single-ticketed event, with one ticket providing access to both games. Sounders FC's single-match tickets are currently on sale, so fans who purchase a ticket for the June 3 match receive access to both of the day's games with that ticket.
The best way to secure any remaining lower bowl seating for the doubleheader is through purchasing a Sounders FC Season Ticket Membership or Partial Pack package. Sounders FC's Season Ticket Members receive the Reign-Thorns match as part of their existing ticket package, with their tickets for June 3 including the OL Reign match as part of that event day. Members have the ability to manage those tickets in a similar fashion to any of their usual games.
For the ultimate matchday experience, premium inventory is available via SoundersFC.com/Premium-Seating or through contacting Premium@SoundersFC.com.
To purchase single-match tickets or any other Sounders FC ticket packages, fans can call 877-657-4625 or email Sales@SoundersFC.com. Complete information on all of the Rave Green's ticket packages can be found via SoundersFC.com/Tickets.
