Sudbury Wolves' star defenceman Kyle Capobianco scored the game winning goal in TEAM CANADA's 11-6 victory over LATVIA in the first game of the U18 World Championships in Switzerland. Team Canada trailed 3-2 after the first period and exploded for six goals in the second period to take a commanding 8-3 lead into the final frame.
Capobianco, 17, was the Wolves' 2013 first-round selection in the OHL Priority Selection and was drafted sixth overall. The Mississauga native stands 6'1", weighs-in at 170 lbs and finished the 2014-15 OHL season with 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points in 68 games. Capobianco was an Alternate Captain for the Oakville Rangers of the GTHL and won the 2013 GTHL Championship along with the 2013 OHL CUP.
Capobianco was recently named the Wolves' MVP, Best Defenceman and also finished with the most assists on the Wolves. Kyle was awarded the Alternate Captaincy "A" when Nick Baptiste was traded to the Erie Otters in November. Capobianco is rated #44 on the NHL Central Scouting List for the upcoming NHL draft to be held in Florida on June 27th.
Kyle Capobianco and Team Canada will play again on Saturday at 12:45 pm EDT against Switzerland. Capobianco wears jersey #28 for Team Canada.
