April 10, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release

Madison, WI- The Madison Capitols (23-24-11) conclude their first season back in the USHL with a two-game set against the Muskegon Lumberjacks (34-20-4), starting with a Friday matchup at 7 p.m. at the Alliant Energy Center.

The Capitols opened their first season against these same Lumberjacks at the L.C. Walker Arena on Sep. 27. Muskegon triumphed that evening, 4-3. Luke McElhenie, Ryan Lohin, and Guillaume Leclerc scored their first USHL goals for Madison that evening.

The Lumberjacks and Capitols have played four one-goal games this season, including a pair that needed extra time. Madison topped the Lumberjacks, 2-1 on Dec. 29 thanks to a Haralds Egle overtime power play marker. Muskegon returned the favor by beating the Capitols in a 13-round shootout at Walker Arena on Jan. 9.

Each team has won two of the four matchups this season, with each game being tightly contested. The Lumberjacks have clinched a playoff berth in the East, but need to register at least one point this weekend to escape the fourth and final seeding.

Madison enters the season's final weekend playing much better hockey of late, winning two of its last three games. The Capitols dispatched the Des Moines Buccaneers by a 4-2 score last Saturday thanks to two goals from Charlie Gerard and another from Freddy Gerard.

The elder Gerard will play in his final weekend as a Capitol. The 21-year-old, Ohio State commit leads Madison with 18 goals this season, in addition to his five shorthanded goals, good for third in the USHL.

The Capitols will get Mitch Hults back from suspension for his final weekend of junior hockey as well. The Minnesota commit was on a tear prior to his five-game ban, and he has registered single-season career highs in goals (13), assists (20) and points (33).

Muskegon enters Madison armed with one of the USHL's most explosive blue lines. Captain Christian Wolanin has registered 38 points, while former Des Moines Buccaneer Corey Schueneman has tallied 44 points from the blue line between his time in Des Moines and Muskegon this season.

The Lumberjacks have also received superb goaltending from Eric Schierhorn, who has recorded 25 victories while posting the USHL's best save percentage at .927.

Madison and Muskegon will meet once again on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the season finale inside the Alliant Energy Center. Tickets for both games are available via www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277) or visiting the Alliant Energy Center box office.

Capitols' 2015-16 season tickets are also available now by visiting www.MadCapsHockey.com . Fans who pay in full for season tickets by June 1 will receive a specialty season ticket holder jersey. Packages can also be purchased by calling (608) 257-CAPS (2277).
