
Lavigne Shuts-Out Des Moines 4-0

Des Moines, IA - The first shutout in Bloomington Thunderhistory belongs to goaltender HaydenLavigne (University of Michigan) who made 19 saves in route to a 4-0 overthe Des Moines Buccaneers. Bloomington improves to 28-24-7 this season in theirinaugural year and have won their last three. Des Moines falls in their seventhconsecutive game to fall to 21-25-13.
The lone goalin the first period was the difference as pressure coughed the puck up in theBuccaneer corner. Logan Lambdin and Ryan Galt (University of Nebraska-Omaha)earned assists on the play as Galt worked the puck loose and centered it to Pat Curry for his eighth of the season.The Schaumburg, IL native scored between the legs of goaltender Ryan Ruck (Northeastern University) totake a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
Galt now has93 points in his USHL career headed into the final game of the 2014-15 season,the most of any player on the Thunder roster. No penalties were called in thefirst 20 minutes as the Thunder won the shot battle 11-8. Both teams were 0-2in the game on special teams.
Only threeshots were recorded by Bloomington in the second, but one chance was all ittook for a 2-0 lead. VladislavDzhioshvili crossed the puck over to StevenMerl on the far side of the net. Merl scored his fifth of the year andsecond point in two games as Dzhioshvili grabbed his third point in threegames. Shane Bednard (Bowling GreenState University) also tallied an assist on the play to continue his pointstreak to five games.
Lavigne playeda sound game for the Thunder and controlled the tempo for Bloomington with 15saves in two periods. On another odd man rush in the third, Jason Kalinowski (University of NewHampshire) scored his second of the season over the shoulder of Ruck.Bednard grabbed his second assist of the night and tied Matt Mendelson (Penn State University) for the team lead.
Max Gottlieb (Brown University) scored one final goal with under aminute to play on a strange bounce to solidify the win for the Thunder. Currygrabbed his second point of the night and finished with the game-winning goal.
The Thundercoaching staff headed the squad in a low-shooting defensive game. Ruck finishedthe game with 15 saves and the loss. Lavigne picked up his first career shutoutfor his second straight win.
