
Capitals Re-Sign Defenseman Sean Collins

ARLINGTON, VA. - The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Sean Collins to a one-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Collins, 27, played in 73 games for the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season, registering 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) and 78 penalty minutes. He finished the 2010-11 season fourth amongst Hershey defensemen in points and his plus-29 rating led the AHL. Collins also appeared in four regular-season games with the Capitals last season, scoring a goal and registering a plus-two rating and made his NHL playoff debut in the Eastern Conference Semifinal series against Tampa Bay. In 19 career NHL games, Collins has two goals, one assist and 12 penalty minutes.
Collins appeared in 15 playoff games with Hershey during the 2009-10 season, recording a goal and two assists while helping the Bears capture the Calder Cup. The 6'1", 206-pound native of Troy, Michigan, has collected 46 points (six goals, 40 assists) and 184 penalty minutes in 190 career games for Hershey.
The former Ohio State Buckeye was originally signed as a free agent by the Capitals on March 17, 2007.
