
Wild Re-Signs Bagnall, Ortmeyer

HOUSTON --- Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has agreed to terms with defenseman Drew Bagnall on a two-year, two-way contract, and forward Jed Ortmeyer on a one-year, two-way contract. The Wild also signed defenseman Kyle Medvec to a two-year, entry-level contract.
Bagnall, 27 (10/26/83), helped lead the American Hockey League's (AHL) Houston Aeros to the Calder Cup Final in 2010-11, posting two assists and 112 penalty minutes (PIM) in 72 regular season games, and two points (1-1=2) and 22 PIM in 24 post-season contests. Bagnall also played two games for the Wild, recording four PIM. He made his NHL debut April 8 in Edmonton. Bagnall captained the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL in 2009-10, tying a career high with 12 points (1-11=12) and adding 113 (PIM) in 58 games. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound native of Oakbank, Manitoba, was originally selected by Dallas in the sixth round (No. 195 overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Bagnall played collegiately at St. Lawrence University and totaled 72 points (19-53=72) and 235 PIM over four seasons.
Ortmeyer, 32 (9/3/78), also was on the Aeros team that advanced to the Calder Cup Final. He recorded 16 points (6-10=16) and 29 PIM in 40 regular season games, while adding 13 points (6-7=13) in 24 post-season contests. Ortmeyer skated in four games with the Wild, recording two PIM. He was signed by Minnesota as a free agent on Jan. 5, 2011. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Omaha, Neb., has skated in 310 NHL games in six seasons with the New York Rangers, Nashville, San Jose and Minnesota, posting 147 points (21-30=51) in 310 games. He played collegiately at the University of Michigan.
Medvec, 23 (6/16/88), recorded six points and 28 penalty minutes (PIM) in 29 games during his senior season at the University of Vermont. The 6-foot-6, 229-pound defenseman totaled 38 points (10-28=38) in 139 games in four seasons with the Catamounts. Medvec served as an assistant captain this season and was named to the 2008-09 Hockey East All-Academic Team. He helped lead the Catamounts to the 2009 Frozen Four. Born in Westminster, Colo., and raised in Burnsville, Minn., he played at Apple Valley High School and was a finalist for the 2006 Mr. Hockey Award. He was originally selected by the Wild in the fourth round (No. 102 overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
