Peoria Rivermen News Release
St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Friday that the club has signed free agent goaltender Brian Elliott to a two-way, one-year contract.
"We were looking for a goaltender to come in and compete with Ben Bishop for the second spot behind Jaroslav Halak," said Armstrong. "This move strengthens our goaltending position in the organization."
Elliott, 26, appeared in 55 games last season combined with the Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche, posting a 15-27-9 record with three shutouts, a 3.34 goals-against average and .893 save percentage.
The 6'3", 201-pound netminder has played in 142 National Hockey League (NHL) games, registering a 61-53-16 career record to go along with nine shutouts, a 2.90 goals against average and .901 save percentage.
Prior to turning pro, Elliott played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin (WCHA), where he backstopped the Badgers to the 2006 NCAA championship.
The Newmarket, Ontario native was originally drafted by Ottawa in the ninth round, 291st overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
