How they Fared Last Week:

January 1st - Hurricanes (6) at Regina (3)

The Hurricanes opened up 2014 with a New Year's Day tilt with Regina. Eight (8) minutes into the game, Griffin Foulk's point shot went off a Regina D-man (Jesse Zgraggen) and found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead and that's how things stood after the first. The Hurricanes blew the game open with 3 goals in just 52 seconds in the opening 2 minutes of the second period. Tyler Bell scored for a 2-0 lead, 19 seconds later Reid Duke scored his 8th of the year and that was all for goalie Nick Schneider. His backup Dawson MacAuley didn't fare much better because Riley Sheen scored 31 seconds after the goalie change. Sheen scored again making it a 5-0 lead and that ended MacAuley's night. Regina scored before the end of the period and made it interesting with a pair of goals early in the third, but the Hurricanes skated to a 6-3 win after an empty netter from Russ Maxwell.

January 3rd - Hurricanes (1) at Prince Albert (3)

The Hurricanes opened the scoring 3 minutes into the first when Brady Ramsay scored his 10th of the season. The Raiders would pull even in the latter stages of the first period when Calder Brooks buried a rebound past Corbin Boes and it was 1-1. Boes was tested early and often in the period once again as the Raiders outshot the Hurricanes 19-9. Boes continued to put on a clinic in the second, but midway through the period, he was screened and Mackenzie Stewart's point shot right off the face-off found the mesh making it 2-1 Raiders. With Boes on the bench for the final minute and a half of the game, Carson Perreaux sealed the victory with an empty netter giving the Raiders the 3-1 win.

January 4th - Hurricanes (2) at Saskatoon (5)

Saskatoon opened the scoring just over 3 ½ minutes into the game when Logan Harland tipped a point shot that found its way behind Corbin Boes. Lethbridge would get some great scoring chances, but they ran into a hot goaltender in Troy Trombley and he stopped all 12 shots the Hurricanes threw at him. The game changed in the second period as the Hurricanes would run into penalty and give the Blades 4 straight powerplays with Saskatoon scoring on three of them. Nick Zajac scored twice and Harland added the other making it 4-0. The Hurricanes outshot the Blades 26-11 in the 3rd and got goals from Jamal Watson and Reid Duke, but it was too little too late as an empty netter sealed the 5-2 win for the Blades.
