Red Deer Rebels News Release
The Rebels, playing their only Sunday home game of the season, sought a win over the Warriors before heading out their four-game eastern road trip.
FIRST PERIOD
The Warriors powerplay, which has had much success against the Rebels this season, scored the game's opening goal. Jack Rodewald tracked down the loose puck and fired home his 11th goal of the season. Tanner Eberle and Travis Brown assisted on the goal that gave Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead at 4:21.
The Rebels tied it just over three minutes later when Vukie Mpofu finished off a dazzling three-way passing play with Rhyse Dieno and Conner Bleackley with his 5th of the season and third goal of the weekend. The 1-1 goal came at the 7:33 mark of the opening frame.
A few minutes after that, Rodewald made a nice play in tight to beat Patrik Bartosak for his second goal of the period, 12th of the season. Brayden Point and Reid Zalitach picked up the assists on the 2-1 goal at 13:21.
In the final minute of the period, the Rebels came through with a powerplay goal to tie the game once again. Matt Bellerive capitalized on a great pass from Dieno to score his 9th goal of the season. Bleackley picked up the second assist on the 2-2 goal at 19:31.
SECOND PERIOD
Moose Jaw took the lead for a third time when Tanner Eberle netted his 9th of the season, set up by Point and Rodewald, 2:54 into the middle frame, 3-2.
THIRD PERIOD
Moose Jaw's powerplay success against the Rebels continued when Rodewald found the back of the net for his hat trick goal just 50 seconds into the final frame. Point and Brown earned the helpers on the goal that gave the Warriors their first two-goal lead of the game.
The Rebels cut their deficit back to one with another powerplay goal, this time while working with a 5-on-3. Lukas Sutter fanned on a shot from in close but got enough of the puck to collect his 8th goal of the campaign. Matt Bellerive and Brayden Burke, with his first WHL point, assisted on the 5-4 goal at 7:54. Unfortunately, the Warriors would hold on from there for a one goal win.
