Canes Go East In Search Of A Streak Breaker

November 27, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release

Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes will kick off a quick two game trip through the East Division as they take on the Eastern Conference leading Saskatoon Blades in "Toon Town" tonight. The Blades currently hold top spot in the Eastern Conference with an astounding 19-3-0-3 record including a 12 game streak without a loss in regulation. The Canes will look to play the part of the spoiler and become only the second team to deal the Blades a regulation loss on home ice. The Canes will then play a Saturday night matchup against the Prince Albert Raiders before returning to Lethbridge.

In their only meeting of 09-10 the Canes suffered a 3-2 OT loss to the Blades on October 10th in Lethbridge. The Canes played a tight game all night against their rivals from the East division with WHL rookie Mitch Maxwell scoring his 3rd of the season to give Lethbridge an early lead. Carter Bancks then added his third goal of the season to give the Canes a 2-1 lead which they held until the final minute of the game when Saskatoon was able to knot the game up 2-2 to force overtime. The Canes would then take an untimely penalty allowing for Saskatoon to tally the game winner (off a deflected shot) with the man advantage. The Canes power play was 2 for 7 on the night while the overtime goal was the only blemish on a 6 for 7 PK. Veteran goaltender Linden Rowat made 31 saves in the loss.
